Project Overview

For over 120 years Malley & Co have provided Aotearoa with exceptional legal advice. Their highly-respected practice is steeped in history, backed by a culture of trustworthiness, professionalism and personalised service. Following an unsuccessful rebrand a few years prior, our expertise were engaged to reinstate prestige and gravitas to the brand, better aligning external perception with their internal values.

Bringing a hint of tradition to a modern execution, the new logo features a serif font designed by renowned Aotearoa type-foundry Klim, providing a contemporary twist on a classic style. This is accompanied by an iconographic scale motif, the historic symbol of justice. This was deliberately crafted to create a feeling of longevity and familiarity; feasibly a refinement of the original 1897 logo mark rather than a completely new identity.

For Malley & Co this was a huge departure from their previous brand, and required buy-in from stakeholders across the business. To help facilitate this we created a printed brand book, distributed to staff to bring them along on the brand journey. The booklet was fully illustrated for a more story-like feel, using playful metaphors to help communicate the updated brand pillars with warmth and personality. These lyrical illustrations were so well received that they were repurposed for a public awareness campaign, and became a cornerstone of the brand's visual toolkit.
