Actually is a groundbreaking online tool made here in Aotearoa New Zealand for our building and construction industry.

With Actually, users can accurately estimate the cost and carbon footprint of a build in the early stages of design, allowing them to weigh up the impact of their choices, both on budget and the environment, before they’re set in stone.

Working alongside Actually’s founder, Ben Brady, to translate a few scribbles on an A3 sheet into an intuitive and comprehensive web app, our team were met with one of our most challenging, enlightening and rewarding briefs to date.

The scope and complexity of the project was unique, with nothing like this having been created before. From a design perspective, our mission was to create an effortless workspace for users that felt uncluttered and elegant, despite its fundamentally complex nature. A foil to typical CAD software. Stylishly utilitarian, the app is designed to quietly enhance but never interfere with the user's experience.

Conversely, the brand identity was created to make a bold and imposing statement. Intelligent, unexpected and ready to disrupt the industry — eschewing the tropes synonymous with environmentally conscious design.

“No greenwashing” said Ben. So we made it pink.
